FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 23, 2015) – April 30th opens a window of opportunity for the Southwest Florida community to understand how window film can be a cost-effective solution to reduce energy costs, protect skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays and provide window safety. To mark National Window Film Day (NWFD), Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson, Jr. presented a proclamation to Chris Russo, owner of Southwest Florida based Beverly Hills Tinting Inc. on April 20, 2015 at City Hall in downtown Fort Myers.

“This is essentially a glass building here at City Hall and the coating that has been installed on the windows I think has been immeasurably helpful,” said Mayor Henderson. “And so it’s befitting that we should recognize the usefulness of this technology.”

The mayor was referring to having LLumar® R20SR 8 mil solar & security window films installed in April of 2012 on all of the windows at City Hall in an effort to lower monthly energy costs associated with cooling the interior, as well as protecting its occupants from glass fragmentation. Beverly Hills Tinting was responsible for the installation and follow up maintenance.

According to the International Window Film Association (IWFA), the non profit organization responsible for spearheading NWFD, as long as a window is structurally sound, professionally installed window film can match or exceed the energy efficiency of many modern windows. Having window film installed may cost up to 90 percent less than a complete window replacement. And during Southwest Florida’s hottest summer months, window film can reduce solar heat gain by as much as 84 percent.

“Once installed, window film can offer year-round savings of about 5 to 10 percent of the home’s total energy bill,” said Darrell Smith, executive director of the IWFA. “In the coming weeks the IWFA will conduct new research to better understand consumer awareness about the impact that indoor sun exposure can have on people and we look forward to sharing the results.”

Particularly important in Southwest Florida, window film can block 99 percent of ultraviolet rays. Not many people know that the sun’s damaging rays can stream into the home through windows, causing potential skin damage to anyone sitting near a window.

“Those concerned about the sun’s dangerous potential for skin damage or skin cancer can take preventative measures,” said Russo. “Window film is proven to reduce the negative effects of the sun, allowing residents to enjoy natural sunlight without worrying about damaging UV rays.”

Window film can also help prevent breakage during severe weather conditions, as well as home invasion, protecting residents from the dangers of broken glass crashing into the home.

Since 1990, Beverly Hills Window Tinting has installed various types of window film to an estimated 500 residences, 200 businesses, and 4,000 automobiles each year.

“There are more benefits to window film than most people realize,” says Russo. “That’s why the IWFA designated April 30th as a day of public education to create awareness about this affordable technology.”

For further education, Russo has provided a link on Beverly Hills Tinting’s website that takes viewers to a one-stop IWFA resource encompassing informative videos and booklets on energy savings, health and safety benefits of window film.

“We encourage our community to take a look at these tools,” concluded Russo. “In addition, our team is available to answer any questions, conduct an environmental audit of your home or business, and serve as a resource for the latest information on this technology.”
